Ouna slams Mathare for poor set-piece defending

Mathare United head coach Frank Ouna has urged his charges to improve on how the defend set pieces following their latest FKF Premier League defeat.

The Slum Boys lost 1-0 to Bidco United on Thursday to remain rooted at the bottom of the league standings and Ouna says they were made to pay again for being sluggish when defending set-pieces.

“We can’t win matches if we keep conceding goals like this and it’s high time the entire team puts its efforts together to avoid these kind of goals. Today I felt we played very well but we conceded cheaply again,” Ouna said.

With eight games until the end of the season, Ouna is confident his team will pull out of the danger zone despite the tough fixtures that lie ahead.

“We will give our best to avoid relegation because when you look at the three teams ahead of us there’s only a small gap in terms of points. We won’t give up until it’s mathematically impossible,” the former Wazito FC tactician said.

Mathare will host the FKF-PL leaders Tusker FC in their next assignment before squaring it up with Wazito and then end the month’s fixtures with a home match against the 2009 champions Sofapaka.

Ouna was appointed head coach two months to steer Mathare back to safety and while they have often dominated past matches, the results have hardly favoured them.
