Ouma to rest key players as Starlets face Cranes

Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma is optimistic that his side will defeat Uganda Crested Cranes in their final Group B match of the CECAFA Women Championships, although he plans to largely change his starting team.

The Thursday evening match at the Azam Sports Complex in Chamazi Tanzania, determines who finishes top of Group B, with both sides each having six points from two matches played.

Starlets cruised into the semi-finals of the tournament after humiliating Djibouti 12-0 on Tuesday and they will focus on topping the group.

Ouma has revealed to Citizen Digital  he will rest some of his first team players in the Uganda clash, to save their energy for the semis.

“No matter the result today, we are already qualified for the semis. For this measure we have to rest some players like Dorcas Shikobe, Ruth Ingosi and Cynthia Shilwatso. We need the players fresh going forward in the later stages of the competition and this is what I have been doing, rotating the squad.”

Ouma has expressed his satisfaction in the team’s performance so far, exuding confidence that his team can go all the way.

“I want to congratulate my girls for winning two matches back to back. Hammering Djibouti with such a margin wasn’t expected putting in mind they lost their first pool match to Uganda. They came into the match employing a pure on defensive approach but we still managed to suppress them viciously,” said Ouma.

Ouma has said he has no injury concerns but the level of humidity in Dar es Salaam is causing his players trouble, a situation he observes they must cope with.

The semi-final matches are slated for November 23 while the finals of the annual showpiece will be staged at the Chamazi Stadium on November 25.
