Oilers Weru fired-up for Mwamba clash

Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru says he will focus on improving his defence to avoid conceding points ahead of their Kenya Cup match against Mwamba RFC this weekend at the ASK Showground, Nakuru.

Having lost points at the end of the year against Kabras Sugar, the former Simba scrum-half is optimistic that his charges will upset the visitors in match round 10 although he believes it won’t be an easy task given that Mwamba is a good side.

“Our racks and set pieces were very good when we had the ball in hand but our defence sometimes let us down, so it’s an area we have to work on very hard and make sure we don’t concede many points,” Weru told Citizen Digital.

“I think Mwamba is a very good side and it has been playing well finishing the year with a win,” he added.

“So for us is just picking from where we left last year and working on our shortcomings,” said Weru.

Oilers will be boosted by players they acquired in the KRU mid-season transfer window led by Mark Kwemoi from Impala Saracens, Dalmus Chituyi from Menengai Cream Homeboyz and Geoffrey Ominde from Top Fry Nakuru.

“I will start by introducing them slowly into our system so that they can learn and understand our systems and how we play and then we introduce them in the later stages,” explained Weru.

“But we’ll later need them having brought experience in terms of leadership and knowledge of the game which will be a good plus for us and we hope to start on a high.

“Ominde is like the final end having been in the game for a long time, guiding various clubs in terms of leadership and experience,” claimed Weru.

“Kwemoi also will be under the spotlight and he has come to a young club which he can be able to lead and be able to share his experience and to me, they will help the club move forward.

The Nakuru-based side is fifth in the overall log with 24 points one behind fourth-placed Resolution Impala Saracens.
