Oilers overpower Mwamba in Kenya Cup

Menengai Oilers defeated Mwamba RFC 30-14 to start the year with a win in a Kenya Cup match played at Nakuru’s Moi Showground on Saturday.

Gibson Weru’s charges scored four tries converting two plus two penalties against Kevin Wambua’s charges two converted tries.

Austine Sikutwa landed the first try giving the hosts an early lead with the conversion going wide for a 5-0 lead.

Mwamba’s Ronnie Omondi stretched over a centre post try Eugene Nzioka converting it to lead 7-5.

Sikutwa drilled in a penalty for the hosts leapfrogging a one point lead for Oilers.

Oilers scored two fast tries and converted one to make it 20-7 at halftime.

In the second half debutant Geoffrey Ominde was the core of Oilers third try as he sucked in the defenders before offloading to his teammates who set up Sikutwa for his brace conversion going wide for a 20-7 lead.

Sikutwa the man of the match extended Oilers lead as he split the posts with a penalty kick to make it 23-7.

Derrick Keyoga went over the whitewash Sikutwa adding the extras to make it 30-7 for Oilers.

Elvis Namusasi sliced through the Oilers defense to land Mwamba’s second try with Shujaa international Daniel Taabu converting to make it 30-14 at Full time.
