Nyuki Starlets in market for fresh blood

Nyuki Starlets head coach Edgar Akhonya is aiming to build a new squad in a bid to clinch the 2019 Kenyan women Premier League title.

The newly promoted side has so far played three matches, drawing one and winning one and losing an equal number and Akhonya says he’s in the market on a scouting mission as most of his players were high school students who have been deprived of adequate training time owing to school commitments.

According to Akhonya, he has already acquired 12 new players out of 23 whom he wants to bring to the team.

Among the new recruits is captain Cynthia Matekwa who was with the team in Division One, Nancy Jebet from Trans Nzoia, Mildred Akhura (Busia) and Ivy Makhokha who starred for Ibinzo Girls when they featured at the east African secondary schools championship.

Meanwhile Kayole Starlets were hammered 2-1 by Gaspo at the Barclays Sports Club in weekend’s league action as Mathare United suffered a similar loss in the hands of Kisumu All Starlets at the same venue while the defending champions Vihiga Queens thrashed Makolanders 5-0.

Vihiga Queens are still atop the league table with 18 points after playing six matches followed by Gaspo Youth who are second with 12 points after four matches.

Kisumu All Starlets are third with 12 points; Soccer Queens fourth with 10 points while former champions Thika Queens wrap up the top five with nine points.
