Nyadzua stars as Bandari Queens edge Gor Queens
Bandari Queens FC sunk Gor Mahia
Queens 1-0 in a Women National Super League (WNSL) clash at Ronald Ngala Primary
School grounds in Mombasa on Saturday.
Bandari Queens got the solitary goal
through Happy Nyadzua in Second half, in a match played under heavy rains experienced
in the Coastal city.
Speaking after the match, Bandari
Queens coach Jannet Amuga expressed her joy saying the work they have been
doing in the preseason is paying direct dividends.
"Despite the weather challenge, I’m
happy we got maximum points. Gor has a very good team so we cannot take the win
lightly. It's only that they didn't use their chances but I’m happy we got the
points.”
On his side Gor Queens coach Francis
Ocholla said they were unlucky since they had better chances to get the maximum
points.
"We played well, only a few
mistakes and we got punished but I believe we will have a good NSL season. Today,
the better team lost," said Ocholla.
Bandari FC had a better start but had
to wait until the half-hour mark to get a shot on target.
Ten minutes later, Nyadzua had a 30-yard
shot saved by Gor’s keeper Eliver Awuor for a corner, before attempts by Gor
duo Faith Kasaya and Sheila Awuor on the opposite end were thwarted.
Nyadzua, who had a lady of the match performance,
gave Bandari their goal in the 58th minute, sneaking a low shot past Gor
goalkeeper Awuor.
Nyadzua would have doubled the advantage
eight minutes later but missed narrowly, with only the keeper to beat.
Gor pushed hard for an equaliser in
vain, but almost got one in the stoppage time when Anney Anyango’s shot rattled
the bar.
This was Bandari Queens first ever NSL
victory.
