Njeru, Kipkoech clinch Imenti South Road Race titles

Embu County’s Pauline Njeru and Isaac Kipkoech from Kericho County cruised to victory during this year’s Safaricom Imenti South Road Race that attracted over 700 athletes.

Njeru crossed the tape at 57:32 to claim her third title at the annual race with Nancy Nzisa from Machakos County coming second in 57:37. Nyahururu’s Monica completed the podium, clocking 59:34 for a third place finish.

Njeru attributed her win to the extensive training regime that she has been adhering to for the last few months.

“I have been training in Rwanda and wanted to use today’s race as a build up to the Angola race which has been cancelled unexpectedly. I am however happy about this win as it puts me in a better position to prepare for upcoming races next year,” she said.

The winner of the men’s race, Isaac Kipkoech clocked 49: 22 with Daniel Muteti from Makueni County clocking 49:28. Henry Kiplagat from Charity Club completed the top three with a time of 50:01.

Winners walked away with cash prizes of Kshs. 100,000/= each.
