New season but old demons torment Leopards as Trucha threatens to quit

It’s a new season that should usher something new, fresh and exciting.

Or in other words, the new Football Kenya Federation Premier League campaign which began last weekend should help AFC Leopards utilize its on-the-pitch promise to attain the goal – winning the coveted league title.

And rightly so, they have began the season on a high winning their opening match 2-1 , beating Tusker FC last weekend.

However, that is now like whirlwind. The demons that have long tormented them have woken up, threatening to drive their new head coach Tomas Trucha away.

And it has to do with the shallow empty politics and the shenanigans that plague the club, term after term. Who will save them?

Citizen Digital has authoritatively learnt that Trucha together with his manager Ghanaian Prince Kofi are unhappy over attacks leveled against them, according to the latter.

Kofi,  in a conversation with Citizen Digital claimed that he has received threats from people whom he says are accusing him of ”forcing” the coach to use the players he manages while overlooking those from Kenya.

The theatrics come just five days after the club played its first league match of the  2020/21 campaign, a 2-1 win over Tusker last weekend.

Kofi however insists it’s the coach’s prerogative to select players he deems fit and anything on the contrary is a cheap  lie.

“They are saying I am forcing the coach to use a player whom, fortunately, I’m managing as his agent…

That is a lie!

Trucha is a professional coach and he knows what he needs according to his assessment and I cannot manipulate him on fielding of players,” Kofi charged.

Prince has also said that Leopards must move quickly to protect him and his client from accusations before it is too late.

“Early this morning(Wednesday) I had a meeting with the president (Dan Shikanda) and I’ve told him that I’ve gotten threatening messages and he needs to sit with the board and address what I think needs to be done,” the Ghanaian said, adding, “If not then I will use the clauses in the contract as my coach is saying, ‘if the environment is not conducive, according to the contract, then lets part ways mutually’.”

Trucha was unveiled by Ingwe early last month to take over from interim coach Antony ‘Modo’ Kimani who was however retained as his assistant.

Winning the league title was his top target, according to the executive but will he last?
