New FKF boss Korir confident of successful tenure despite election fever
Interim Football
Kenya Federation Chief Executive Officer Patrick Korir is confident he will
steer the federation smoothly despite his appointment coming at a time when the
local soccer scene is awash with election fever.
Korir’s
appointment on an interim basis was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon following
the resignation of immediate former CEO Barry Otieno, who had served in that
capacity since 2019 when he took over the reins from Robert Muthomi.
Korir says his
immediate objective will be to ensure a smooth running of the federation’s day-to-day
activities, more so in the context of the preparations for the December 7
elections.
“The board approached me with an offer to serve the federation
on an interim basis, but I will still serve Nairobi City Stars as CEO.
“I will serve in an interim capacity until after the
elections when we discuss whether I will be hired permanently or return to the
club.
“My appointment comes at a time when the country is
planning for the elections, and I feel privileged to steer the federation and
ensure a smooth operation of all functions of the setup.”
The Nairobi City
Stars CEO says it will be a privilege to serve the country in that capacity
despite the uncertainty that comes with his interim appointment.
“I am excited because it is a unique opportunity, and
there are many good things I am planning should my tenure go beyond the
upcoming elections.
“At the moment, I will aim to ensure that all facets
of the organization are functions, but we will make a few teaks along the way
to make it more robust and effective.” He elaborated.
