Nakuru overcome Bulls, Kabras keep top spot

Top Fry Nakuru recorded their second win in a row after they defeated Western Bulls 10-23 at Bull Ring grounds in Kakamega on matchday five of the Kenya Cup.

Buoyed by their comeback win against Kenya Harlequins in their last league outing, the Wanyore began rapidly and Western Bulls couldn’t match their speed and aggression.

The early pressure bore fruit as Newton Okeyo touched down for their first try in the 5th minute with Collins Onyango converting the extras to cap off their impressive start.

The Bulls were not to be bullied without reply and they responded almost immediately with a perfect penalty kick in the 10 minute to earn 3 points.

The rapid play by both teams invited several errors from both sides but none looked to punish the other.

Nakuru continued to get better in the game while Western Bulls struggled with set-pieces.
The Wanyore extended their lead on the 24th Minute after the impressive Nakuru fly half Onyango scored a penalty to put Nakuru 7 points ahead.

Just moments later, the onlooking fans were treated to another shred of beauty as Edwin Makori danced through the Echulusi defense to score a solo try with Onyango converting successfully.

Nakuru were superior in set-pieces while Echulusi were all over the place making several errors. A poorly timed tackle by Javon Okoth gifted the Wanyores a crucial penalty which Onyango converted comfortably to end the first half at 3-20.

A better start to the second half by the Bulls saw them score a try through Lincoln Barasa and Eugene Asava converted to half the deficit to 10-20.

A dangerous tackle by Nickson Nyandieka earned him a yellow card and bore a scram but the Wanyore couldn’t capitalize on the mistake.

Play was halted moments later after Western Bulls prop Bretty Kamadi sustained a concussion. The Bulls were showing a better resolve but their sustained pressure bore no fruits thanks to their uncoordinated finishing.

Nakuru had one last hurray as they scored a penalty to put the game to bed and rise up to 7th in the league standings.

Elsewhere Impala humiliated the newly promoted Kisumu RFC 5-41 at Mamboleo Stadium Kisumu, while KCB continued their 100 percent start to the season by overcoming Homeboyz 27-24 at the Ruaraka Sports Club.

Kabras made light work of BlakBlad as they whitewashed them 57-3, to stay top of the league.
