Mwendwa retains FKF seat in landslide win

Nicholas Kithuku Mwendwa recorded an easy win on Saturday bagging 77 votes out of a possible 85 to retain his FKF presidency seat after enduring a tough battle in the court over the last one year.

In the Saturday’s FKF national elections held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Mwendwa garnered 77 votes out the total 85, 72 more than his closest challenger Lordvick Omondi Aduda who got five.

Herbert Mwachiro had only three, while both former AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Mule and Boniface Osano got zero.

Conspicuously missing in the polls was the delegate for the Kakamega Homeboyz FC and the Garissa County, leaving 85 voters in the exercise.

Propelled by their powerful football political wing Team Blue, Mwendwa and his deputy Doris Petra did not struggle to floor their four opponents, with their would-be fierce challengers – Sam Nymaweya, Nicholas Musonye and Twaha Mbarak – out of the race following their unsuccessful attempt to stop the polls.

The polls started with the Kenyan Premier League clubs voting, followed by the National Super League clubs  before the Division One delegates cast their ballots.

The Kenya Women Premier League clubs followed suit, with the Women Division One and the County delegates completing the voting process.

As the counting for the National Executive Council (NEC) took off, it was clear Mwendwa’s Team Blue was dominating from the onset.

Nyanza’s John Andere edged his only rival to the FKF supreme body Laban Jobita (Western Stima Chairman), garnering 79 votes against five. One vote was pronounced spoilt.

For the Nairobi NEC seat, incumbent Michael Ouma polled 59 to floor Tom Alila(25) and Macharia Wambugu who managed just 1.

Bernard Korir was elected the NEC member for Upper Rift region by 64 votes, beating Masinde Nyongesa who attained 21.

Ahmed Qadar Mohammed clinched the North Eastern NEC position, easily outdoing his only contender Mohammed Ahmed Farah by 82 against three.

The closest showdown was in the Women Rep in the NEC, won by Margaret Anyango by 43 votes, just one more than Violet Momanyi. Immediate former Gor Mahia Treasurer Sally Bollo had a difficult day in the race, getting zero.

Davis Chege of Central, Gabriel Mghendi of Coast, David Bunei of Lower Rift and Western’s Tony Kweya were unopposed in the NEC race.
