Mwamba RFC captain Eliakim Kichoi expects tough matches as Kenya Cup resumes this weekend.

This he believes will be compounded by the fixture congestion brought about by Covid-19 that halted the competition.

“The games will be tough with the break that has been there during the Covid-19 pandemic period because not all the teams will be in their perfect form,” said Kichoi.

“There will be a congestion of games but there’s nothing we can do since many players wanted the games to resume and there will be breaks to rest after three games so hopefully by mid-season the teams will be back to their form,” he added.

According to Kichoi, the top four teams – Kabras, KCB, Oilers and Top Fry Nakuru have an advantage over the rest of the competition as they’ve had more preparations, aided by their financial muscle.

“The training has been tricky for many teams apart from the top four teams because most of the players had to look for jobs during the long break with other teams able to cater for their players in the training camp,” said Eliakim.

According to Eliakim, teams in Nairobi were disadvantaged with little training time, owing to lockdown measures undertaken by the government, handing their opponents upcountry the advantage.

Mwamba, popularly known as ‘Kulubu’ will face Ngong side Resolution Impala Saracens from 3pm at the Impala Club hoping for a fine outing.
