Muyoti says Homeboyz can finish inside top five in KPL

Newly appointed Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti is relishing the challenge of finishing inside the top five places in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and believes his squad has the sort of quality to achieve it.

Homeboyz put UP a spirited fight to draw 2-2 with Sofapaka FC in their first match under Muyoti, with the result leaving them stuck at ninth place on 18 points and six behind the top five mark.

“It is very possible with the squad I have to even finish in top three because the players have a full support from the management hence good environment for us to achieve our target,” Muyoti told Citizen Digital at the Bukhungu Stadium.

The tactician added he will make new signings during the mid-season transfer window in order to boost their top five bid.

“With a few injections in the squad I think we will do better this season but for now I believe in the squad I have and in mid-season I will add one or two signings,” he said.

Muyoti has received a bit of a flak for ditching Nzoia Sugar but the former Harambee Stars midfielder says he could not turn down Homeboyz offer saying it was a big opportunity since the club has the best ‘project’ in KPL.

“With the good management and project the club has, I could not let this opportunity go because all coaches dream to work in a good environment and Homeboyz is suitable for me,” he added.

Muyoti penned down a one-year deal with Homeboyz taking over the mantle from Allan Wanga who was appointed caretaker manager last month following the sacking of Ugandan Coach Paul Nkata over match-fixing claims.

Prior to his appointment at Homeboyz, Muyoti was the head coach at Nzoia where he replaced former Kenyan international Bernard Mwalala mid last year.
