Mutua to fly Kenyan flag in Danish tennis league

Kenya’s top table tennis player Brian Mutua has landed a three-month professional training stint in Denmark starting September.

Mutua, who represented Kenya at both the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa World Cup Qualifiers held in Nairobi in March and the Gold Coast Games in Australia, will now have the opportunity to play with the World finest.

This was disclosed by the Kenya Table Tennis Association President Andrew Mudibo who arrived back into the Country after attending board meetings of ITTF, and the World Table Tennis Champions that were held in Halmstad, Sweden.

“While in Denmark,  Mutua will play in the Danish League with top players from all over the world and we hope that he will be able to open the doors for more Kenyan players to be able to join professional clubs in Europe,” Mudibo said.

In the past the Association took Peter Theuri, Josiah Wandera and Alikhan Kaiza to France for specialized training.

Mudibo further revealed San-Ei, the suppliers of table tennis tables to the Olympic Games held in Rio and also the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will be donating a total of 50 tables towards the ‘Let the girls shine program’ that Kenya TTA is running in conjunction with Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA). Select schools and youth groups round the country are also in the mix.

At the same time Table Tennis England have renewed their commitment in working closely with the Association to promote the local programs.

Meanwhile, Kenya Table Tennis Association will be holding its elections next month after the Association’s Council meeting decides on the election date later this month.
