Munich 72 Olympics hero Asatis wife to be buried Friday

Rose Kerubo who is the wife of Munich 1972 Olympics men 4x400m relay winner Charles Asati will be buried on Friday at their rural home in Iringa Village, Manga District of Nyamira County.

Mrs. Asati passed on a week ago after a long battle with Leukaemia and the funeral cortege will start her final journey to her resting place from Kenyatta University Mortuary on Thursday.

According to Asati, Kerubo fell ill from January last year and was initially diagnosed with Pneumonia and treated for the same before returning to her daily duties.

Later on in the year, her health took a turn for the worse and she was admitted at the Nairobi West Hospital.

“My wife has suffered a lot and at Nairobi West, we were forced to lodge my son’s vehicle log book to offset a Ksh1.3m bill,” the retired sprinter who is the Athletics Kenya (AK) Nyanza South Vice-chairman told Citizen Digital.

AK Nyanza South chairman, Peter Angwenyi and Secretary Ken Boro are spearheading efforts to raise funds for the Asati family to give the hero’s wife a befitting send off.

Asati was part of the celebrated 4X400m quartet that won Kenya’s first and only gold in the relays at the Munich Games alongside Munyoro Nyamau, Robert Ouko and the late Julius Sang who passed on in 2004 when they ran 2:59.83 for victory.
