Moment of truth as shakedown gets WRC Safari Rally underway
After driving around the iconic routes of this
year's WRC Safari Rally and enjoying the scenic Nakuru County, it is down to
business Wednesday morning as drivers kick off the official shakedown in
Naivasha.
Kalle Rovanpera will be the first one to rev off his Toyota
machine at 10:01am East African Time, followed by Thierry Neville of Hyundai 3
minutes later.
His counterpart Ott Tanak will be the next one to feel the gravy
Kenyan roads as he is set to rev off at 10:07am.
M-sports Craig Breen is fourth on the starting order with
Takamoto Katsuta who endeared himself to Kenyan rally fans last time out with
sheer speed and grit completing the first five on the order.
WRC and WRC2 drivers will have until 10:46am to complete their
shakedowns and later page way for other drivers in the lower categories
including the Kenyan drivers who will be having their own battle in the
National Rally Championship.
Foreign drivers have been enjoying the scenic views as well as
wildlife with most of them noting why the Safari is the most revered rallying
event in the World.
Craig Breen enjoyed his recce after coming across Zebras as well
as Giraffes as showed in his tweet in the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
Belgium Thierry Neuville was another one thrilled with the beautiful views in Naivasha terming it all magic.
Toyota Gazoo's official Twitter page was full of wildlife their
drivers encountered during the recce days.
However despite all the beauty witnessed so far, the drivers are
yet to battle the beast that lies in this iconic rallying event that transcends
generations.
Buckle up, it's about to get rocky, gravy and brutally punishing.
