In a National Super League (NSL) fixture played today, Mombasa United FC beat Samwet 2-1 at Serani Grounds, Mombasa today.

Former Bandari players Wilberforce Lugogo and Yema Mwana scored for Mombasa United before Simon Muhazi gave Samwest a consolation goal.

Both teams played a defensive game in the first 20 minutes of the game before former Bandari and Murang'a SEAL attacking midfielder Wilberforce Lugogo gave Mombasa United the opener in the 25th minute of play.

Lugogo collected a loose ball in the 30-yard area and unleashed a low hard shot, beating Samwest goalkeeper Benard Otieno.

The visitors came back stronger in the second half, making numerous attempts before Simon Muhazi floated a 25 yard free-kick to the top corner of the post for an equalizer in the 56th minute of the game.

Ten minutes later, Mombasa United restored their lead through Yema Mwana who connected Ramadhan Mwanzia shot into the net.

Mombasa United coach Swaleh Kinero was delighted to have won the first three points in this season's NSL saying, there is more to expect from his side.

“We had a good game, we played according to our plan and I think a 2-1 win is a deserving win.”

On his part, Andrew Ongwae the Samwest head coach blamed the loss to his players for not capitalising on their chances.

"Our game plan didn't work in this game especially in the first half and that's why we were forced to make two quick changes, they utilised their chances and they have won.”

At Ukunda Showground, Kwale County, SS Assad were humiliated at home after going down 4-1 against Naivas FC.

In other Saturday NSL results, Dimba Patriots won 4-1 against MCF while Vihiga United won 3-0 against Muhoroni Youth.
