Mombasa Stars held by Kibera as Dimba Patriots clobber Gusii
Mombasa Stars were on Saturday afternoon held to a
one-all-draw by brave Kibera Black Stars in a National Super League match
staged in Mombasa.
Despite taking an early lead at the stroke of half-time,
when top scorer Joel Kihara was fouled in the 18-yard box for a penalty which
was converted by midfield maestro Alfred Manigi, they had to rally to the last
man to earn a point in a game that Kibera pushed hard, more so in the second
half, getting an equalizer midway through the second half, via Richard Bolo,
also from the penalty spot.
Earlier on, Bandari FC loanee Alvin Ngoto came close in the
34th minute, his clipping effort over Black Stars goalkeeper Michael Kalamera
missing the target inches off the side post.
At the restart Kibera Black Stars made two changes, piling pressure on Mombasa Stars defence line, for long spells.
In a post-match interview, Mombasa Stars head coach Mohammed
Hussein "Madaga" blamed the 'hard situation the club is experiencing' for the team’s mixed results.
"In the second half we allowed them to get into the
game, but I think we were overwhelmed by their long balls but also not happy
with the penalty they were given. It was so soft on,” he lamented.
On his part Kibera Black Stars coach Edwin Lavatsa lauded
his boys for the brave-fighting-spirit despite the hot weather condition.
“We played according to our plan more so in second half
where we had a lot of chances but we didn't capitalize, "he said.
