Mixed bag for Shujaa at Solidarity Sevens

Kenya’s rugby sevens team began the final leg of the Rugby Africa Solidarity campaign on a positive note after registering two wins and one loss on Friday.

Shujaa got an upper hand over Zimbabwe with an impressive 28-12 win thanks to four converted tries. Alvin Otieno, Billy Odhiambo, Nelson Oyoo and Jacob Ojee scored one try each for the Kenyans.

In the second game of the day, Kenya battled to claim a 19-12 win over hosts South Africa 2 with Alvin ‘Buffa’ Otieno putting away the winning try.

However in the last game of the day, South Africa 1 would avenge for the loss of their juniors as they thrashed Shujaa 38-7.

The superiority of the South Africans over Kenya was palpable from kick-off with Shujaa conceding three quick tries with Impli Visser, Justin Geduld and Ruhan Nel each scoring a try for the Boks heading to the intervals.

Soon after the break South Africa skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi scored the fourth try of the day, Nakuru RFC speedster Nelson Oyoo however would score the only try for Shujaa with Mwamba RFC fly half converting the extras.

With two minutes left on the stopwatch South Africa were not yet done with Shujaa with Chris Dry for a and Muller du Plessis each scoring two quick tries for a 38-7 scoreline. Five tries, four converted against one converted try for Kenya.

Shujaa take a rest tomorrow awaiting the quarterfinals pairings and resume on Sunday
