Meja named Tusker’s finest for January 2021

Sensational Tusker FC teenager Henry Meja on Wednesday scooped the club’s Player of the Month Award for January 2021, in a brief ceremony presided over by Treasurer Ben Ochieng at their Ruaraka base, Nairobi.

Meja, 19, was feted for his exemplary performance in the month that saw him bag four goals and one assist as the brewers marched to the Football Kenya Premier League summit.

His goals came against Kakamega Homeboyz, two against Kariobangi Sharks and one against Zoo Kericho, a show that has earned him a call up in the national football team Harambee Stars.

“So far my season has been good, and I’m excited about it. I thank my teammates for this, and I will continue to work hard because I’m here to help the team. We will continue working as a team, our goal is to win the league title this season,” said Meja, after receiving the award which is also the first for this season at the club.

About his maiden Harambee Stars call up, Meja is positive his contribution to the so far smooth run at Tusker is being noticed.

“I’m glad for the opportunity. There are friends we played with at the High  School level in the team so I’m comfortable there (in the Stars’ camp). I’m now working hard to make the final squad of the team,” offered swift forward.

His coach Robert Matano congratulated him for the award, but quickly warned him against complacency.

“I’m happy for him because that is the starting point, you have to start somewhere. I think that will encourage him to do more and get more awards. He must not be carried away, because an award can cheat a young player to relax, while needs to keep performing because he was recognised for a good performance,” advised the veteran coach.

Before his teammates, Meja was presented with a shopping voucher worth Sh. 10,000.

The monthly award will run for the rest of the season, as motivation to the players.
