MCF FC ready to believe after NSL promotion

National Super League (NSL) newbies Mully Childrens Family (MCF) FC head coach Robert Arasa is ready to ‘believe’ after the disbandment of the Ushuru FC became a blessing in disguise, earning them a promotion to the second tier league.

The Football Kenya Federation’s Leagues and Competitions Committee early this week promoted the Division One playoff losers after the Taxmen folded owing to financial constraints.

The Yatta-based side face Kenya Police at Ruaraka Grounds Saturday when the NSL new season kicks off and Arasa says they are ready for the baptism of fire in their debut season at the second tier league.

“Despite the short notice, I believe we’re ready for the NSL challenge. We had prepared ourselves during the playoffs which we unfortunately lost so we don’t have any worries about the task ahead of us,” Arasa told Citizen Digital.

MCF finished second in the FKF Northern Zone Division One in their first season and Arasa is upbeat his charges can dare to dream if they can replicate that form in NSL.

“In our first season in Division One league no one knew we would finish among the top teams and we hope the underdog tag will work for us once again in the new league,” he underscored.

The new NSL entrants have bolstered their squad ahead of the kick off roping in four new players. The quartet is of former Muhoroni Youth goalkeeper Salim Sowedi, Fan Ngaira from Western Stima, Nairobi City Stars’ Luis Masika and former Sofapaka left back Derrick Wafula.

Elsewhere, Shabana FC will host former Kenyan Premier League side Mt. Kenya United at Awendo Green Stadium in their opening fixture on Saturday, while APS Bomet hosts Nairobi Stima.

Talanta will kick off the new season against Chemili Sugar at Ruaraka Grounds while Sony Sugar host Vihiga Bullets.
