M-Pesa logo now ‘Eliud159’ for next seven days, Safaricom says
Giant mobile network operator Safaricom has introduced a new M-Pesa logo to honour world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge ahead of the INEOS 1:59 Challenge slated for Saturday in Vienna, Austria.
The new logo which will be active for the next week bears the the number 159 – one hour 59 minutes that Kipchoge will be aiming to attain in his bid to run the marathon in under two hours, and is sandwiched by the words E and LIUD.
While unveiling the new logo on Wednesday in Nairobi , Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph announced that fans across the country will have the opportunity to livestream the race on Youtube for free by dialing *159# where they will get free 1590mb to enable them watch the race.
Furthermore fans have been urged to send their messages of support through #Eliud159 on the day of the race.
The new development comes at a time when Kipchoge has already landed in Vienna for the mouthwatering event as he seeks to be the first human to run a sub two-hour marathon.
Kipchoge has also received support from amongst others Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama ahead of the epic race.
In a Facebook post, Wanyama said: “Let me take this earliest opportunity to wish my friend and countryman Eliud Kipchoge the best in the INEOS159 in Vienna Austria this weekend.I believe you in your capability will run that marathon in 1:59 bro.”
