Leopards to unveil state-of-the-art bus this weekend in Mumias
AFC Leopards will this Saturday unveil its much hyped brand new ultra-modern bus at Mumias Sports Complex in Mumias prior or after an anticipated tough clash with 2009 champions Sofapaka.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda confirmed that preparations are underway for the much-awaited event noting that the arrival of the new bus is a sign of “good things to come’.
Leopards have been financially crippled, operating on a shoe-string budget and the playing unit owed several months pay running into millions of shillings.
The newly acquired bus is as a result on concerted efforts from the government, a section of political leaders from the Western region and the clubs fans.
“We are not yet done with branding which is going to take place today (Wednesday). Yes, plans are underway (to unveil it) and so I want to call upon fans to turn up in large numbers on Saturday to support the team (AFC Leopards),” said Shikanda himself a former player who offered distinguished service to the team in his heydays.
Several high profile personalities from the Western region are expected to grace the event.
Meanwhile, Ingwe are not giving up on the title chase with the chairman confident of a possibility as long as they win all their remaining matches.
Sixth on the log with 34 points, 10 adrift of leaders Gor Mahia, the big cats have an outside chance to claim the gong assuming they win all their matches and the top-five placed teams falter. It is a remote possibility but which can never be ruled out this being the game of football.
“We are mathematically still in the title race so long as we win all the remaining matches and that is why we are planning to have the team camp in Western for at least two weeks so as to accord them better preparation before the Gor Mahia clash,”added Shikanda.
Leopards are set to play Sofapaka this weekend before meeting a tricky-looking Chemelil Sugar. After this clash they’ll train their claws on Gor Mahia on March 8 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi.
Sofapaka shocked holders Gor Mahia with a 3-1 thrashing in their last league outing with Leopards being subjected to a 1-0 loss in the hands of the Robert Matano coached Tusker at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
