KPL: Sony relegated, Chemelil hand walkover as Mathares unbeaten run ends

Sony Sugar have been relegated from the Kenyan Premier League after failing to show up for their league match against Zoo Kericho this afternoon at Kericho Green Stadium.

This was the third match the club was failing to honour this season having missed two others against AFC Leopards and Tusker.

KPL CEO Jack Oguda, citing Fifa rules said that if a team fails to honour three consecutive league games they are relegated to the second tier league.

“The rules states that if the club missed three games in a season, they are relegated to the National super league,” said Oguda.

“If they(Chemelil Sugar) miss the third one they will also follow Sony. Teams that have played Sony will have to be deducted the points they got, if they had played more than half of the matches this season then that(points) would have stood, ”said Oguda in reference to Chemelil who failed to show up for a schedule league match against KCB.

In other matches, Kisumu All Stars beat Wazito 2-0 while Sofapaka ended Mathare United’s unbeaten run with a 1-0 win as Posta Rangers thumped Nzoia Sugar 2-0
