KOT criticize Harambee Stars after Algeria defeat

It was a disappointing night for Kenyan football fans following the defeat in the opener of the African Cup of Nations.

Despite an improved second-half performance, Kenya’s Harambee Stars fell 2-0 to Algeria in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group C opening match at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo on Sunday night.

Baghdad Bounedjah scored from the penalty spot before Riyad Mahrez’s deflected strike handed Algeria victory with a well-worked first-half performance.

Kenyans on Twitter(KOT) were quick to criticize the team’s style of play. Here are some of the reactions:

@Nick Mudimba: I haven’t moved on, why did coach Migne bench Calabar?  Why did we train at 4 degrees Celsius and go play at 38 #HarambeeStars #ALGKEN #AFCON2019.

‏@claudiowangu: “Sisi hatuchezi ball we’re on our way to Canaan”
Ama namna gani Wanyama?

@TomBwana: Let’s play Calabar. No two ways about it. Not sure we need both Dennis Odhiambo and Wanyama in that midfield. Too defensive for nothing. Allow Kahata to ocassionally drift back for the ball to orchestrate forward play. But what do I know? I’m only a fan.

@JuliasSir
3 things have learned in from Harambee stars in  #ALGKEN #AFCON2019:
1) Wanyama is good
2)Olunga is just a name.
3) You don’t need a foreign Coach to lose. We can still lose with Ghost Mulee at a lower cost.

@carol Radull”: Joash Onyango got injured on Saturday. Brian Mandela got injured in Paris. We were always going to suffer at the back from the first whistle. But.

‏@CheGuev14: Mlijua football ni kukimbia mbio zenu za marason?

@Bernard Ndong: That leaky defense has come to haunt #Kenya…Mahrez scores the Algerians second…#HarambeeStars crestfallen..2 – 0 a lot to ponder

@mikeokinyi: Game set and match. Lets wait for Wabongo. We never played mwarabu friendly na tuko na mwarabu kwa group. Anyway, bado mini mkenya.

‏@KBonimtetezi: Algeria 2-0 Kenya.
Harambee Stars displayed nothing but an amazing total lack of attacking ideas in this match which they completed without a single shot on target!

@fredomachoka: It’s not the 2 nil I am upset about but the lack of a single move from the rear that can even reach Olunga! So, what was  France all about?!

‏@OAmollo: Despite The team losing to Algeria, Harambee Stars showed Character & Determination! We’re Fully Behind The Stars! Let’s await the TZ Game!

‏@LinusKaikai: Decent loss. It could have been worse.  And hey, we DREW the second half 0-0!! #UnstoppableKenya #Algeriavskenya #ALGKEN.

@Awesome777Jay(Tanzanian): Kenya mnatuzidi Matatizo, na currency value tuu…… Mengine tuna wakalishaa.

Dave Wathika: hawa wako na wazungu na hatuna.
Gideon Phetinus: Warudi Kenya waone pesa mpya.

Bolton Milton: Let’s stick to corruption and athletics. I now believe in bad Omen.

Denis Ouko:  Uzuri Hata hawana pesa mpya.mcheeeew.

Kenya’s next match is against Tanzania on Thursday at 11pm. The latter went down 2-0 to Senegal on Sunday.
