Kisoi urges more public participation to drive up KYISA funds

The Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Secretary General Ambrose Kisoi has urged sports stakeholders to avail themselves during public participation if they want county governments to be channeling enough funds for sports activities.

Kisoi who also doubles up as the Makueni County sports director, says if the counties are to channel enough funds for sports from their budgetary allocations, public participation is the solution.

The Kenyan Basketball Federation (KBF) assistant secretary general was speaking after it emerged that Southern Eastern counties will not conduct Athletics Kenya county level Cross Country set for this weekend owing to lack of funds.

AK have been appealing to the counties to allocate funds for athletics programmes, particularly championship events but Kisoi says funds allocation to county departments is strictly done in accordance to  public participation report.

“If the sports departments want to get more funds I urge all the stakeholders and even players to be coming for public participation so that we can get enough money to run our activities but if after budget allocations is when we present our activities then we will continue to suffer,” Kisoi told Citizen Digital.

At the same time, Kisoi who is a former Kenyan basketball player has questioned the relationship between the sports federations and county governments.

“For us to work smoothly, counties and sports federations ought to come together and move towards same directions so that we can take Kenyan sports to the next level,” he added.

Meanwhile, after the AK County Cross Country, most of the counties will select their teams for the Regional Cross County Championships set for February 9.

The regions will then select their teams that will compete with teams from other regions, among them Kenya Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Universities, at the national cross country championships slated for February 23 at Eldoret Sports Club.

It’s in Eldoret that a team will be picked for the World Cross Country Championships due March 30 in Aarhus, Denmark.
