Kipruto yearning for World Cross medal

Olympics 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto is yearning to add another gold medal to his rich cabinet when the World Cross Country championships go down in Aarhus, Denmark in March 30.

The World champion is one of the most successful athletes in recent times in the discipline traditionally dominated by Kenyans since time immemorial.

Since clinching a gold medal in 2016 Rio Olympics, Kipruto has not looked back as a year later he also captured a gold medal in the World championships held in London, United Kingdom.

The 24-year-old bountiful harvest would however come in 2018 where he ran to a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games held in Australia before repeating the same fate four months later where he clinched gold in African Championships held in Asaba, Nigeria.

Moreover, Kipruto also brought home gold in the IAAF Continental Cup held in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Despite bagging all those accolades, Kipruto is not thinking of resting on his laurels anytime yet.

“For me I know I may have won almost everything in track and thus I resolved to give a try in this Cross Country and see if I can add some more medals on my cabinet and that is not the end when I retire in track I will also see if I can get something in road races,” Kipruto told Citizen Digital.

Kipruto will be representing Kenya in the universal relay race alongside World 1,500m champion Elijah Manangoi, Charles Simotwo, Agnes Tirop, Winfred Mbithe and Jarinter Mawia where they will be seeking to retain the title Kenya won at the 2017 championships held in Kampala, Uganda.

“We are heading there as defending champions and we are eager to retain the title because we have a very strong team. The preparations have been going on well and we are ready,” said Kipruto at team Kenya training base at the Kigari Teachers Training College, Embu County.

Kipruto finished fifth at the 2013 World Cross held In Bydgoszcz, Poland where he had competed in the 8km junior race.
