Kipruto determined to defend World title in Doha

A nagging injury has blighted Conseslus Kipruto’s season but the Olympic 3000m champion heads to Doha with a huge determination to defend his World title at the Qatari capital.

Late last month Kipruto prematurely pulled out of the final at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco after feeling that nagging injury again.

“It has been a long season without competition due to injury but I have healed and am not feeling any pain I started training after the injury and attended two diamond league events; although I didn’t do well, at the moment my plan is to be ready for the worlds,” Kipruto said.

“When it is about the World Championship, what I am working on with my coaches is to make sure I will be ready to defend the title; at the moment I know there is a lot of competition from the three Ethiopians who I know are in good Shape, One Moroccan and of course my team mates,” he added.

In spite of finishing fifth and seventh in Paris and Brussels diamond leagues respectively the only races he participated after a bronze medal win in relay at the world cross country championship earlier in the year, he has assured his fans the pressure that follows a defending champion, will not tamper his aspiration to win a second successful world title.

“Being a defending champion has a lot of pressure and the injury has not helped, I had people call me asking whether we are going to defend the title, but I assure Kenya’s everyone in the team is in good shape, I have shared my experience with my team mates and everyone in the world know that this gold is for Kenya, we will do anything to defend it”, agitated Kipruto told citizen digital.

The 24 year old has confidence with the entire team, and he believes it can do one better that the 2017 London team which lost the world title to USA, after winning in Beijing 2015.

“When I compare this team to the Beijing 2015 one, this is the best team ever; last week we were calculating how many gold medals the team will win and we got a prediction of Seven or eight, in 2015 we did not win the Women 3000m steeplechase but this year watch this space”.
