KCB RFC maintains its title ambitions as race gathers pace

KCB RFC team manager Philip Wamae says the club is aiming at sealing a Kenya Cup semifinal  playoff place as the race for the title gathers pace in the second round of the season.

The defending champions are second in the standings with 49 points, one behind table-toppers Kabras Sugar and according to Wamae, their philosophy is to take one match at a time.

“The race is still tight so we’re taking a match at a time and our focus currently is just to secure a semifinal playoff berth,” Wamae told Citizen Digital.

“We’re avoiding playing in the quarterfinals of the playoffs so that we can have enough time to prepare for the semifinals and the finals, and looking forward to defending the title,’”he added.

 ‘The Bankers’ will face Western Bulls away at the Bull Ring ground, Kakamega this weekend and Wamae is optimistic his charges will get all the three points for the win plus a bonus point for scoring more than four tries.

“We’re making sure that our combinations are working well for us to make sure we get the right combination before we play our next opponents,” said the Shujaa captain.

Wamae is certain that they’ll miss the services of Andrew Amonde, Johnston Olindi, Vincent Onyala and Geoffrey Okwach who are all away with the national team Shujaa in New Zealand for the upcoming Hamilton Sevens this weekend.

“We’ll miss their services but at the same time we’re happy for them because they’re representing the national team,” claimed Wamae.

“Their replacements are really stepping up to their shoes to make sure we continue with our winning form,” explained Wamae.

KCB has won the Kenya Cup for the last three year and Wamae believes they can win it for the fourth time in a row and eighth time in history.
