KCB, Posta in tussle for Mwangi transfer
FKF premier League clubs KCB FC and Posta Rangers are
involved in a transfer battle for Mathare United forward John “Mavado” Mwangi
The player is in the final months of his contract with
the 2008 league champions and has long been linked with a move away from the
club that thrusted him to limelight.
Last year, the trio of KCB, Wazito and Bandari
unsuccessfully tried to lure him away but looks increasingly likely to leave
with Mathare struggling both on form and financially.
Sources close to the player indicate that KCB head
coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has been following his career closely and has
shown great interest in drafting him to help with their league title chase.
Posta have scheduled a meeting with the player and are
very keen to bring him on board having already added the duo of Patrick Otieno
and Geoffrey Shiveka on to their roaster.
Mwangi’s imminent exit will certainly come as a blow
to the club that is grappling to keep its top flight status.
Mathare are placed second from bottom with seven
points, a tally similar to that of basement side Vihiga Bullets garnered from
sixteen rounds.
Meanwhile, Mathare are rumored to be eyeing immediate
former Wazito assistant coach John Kamau to fill in the void left by Ezekiel
Akwana who resigned last week.
Akwana quit Mathate citing frustrations emanating from
lack of pay leaving his assistant Francis Xavier to take charge on an interim
basis.
