KCB crush Mwamba, set semis date with Menengai
A Felix Ojow double ensured Enterprise Cup defending champions KCB RFC took the driving seat as they ran in seven tries, five conversions and two penalties against Mwamba’s converted try for a 53-7 comfortable win at the KCB Sports Club on Saturday.
Kabras Sugar, Impala Saracens and Menengai Homboyz also cruised to the last four after winning their respective matches in an afternoon of high octane rugby across various venues.
At the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka, Ojow led from the front, scoring his first try of the afternoon after bumping over a few of Mwamba defenders who were caught napping on their defensive work.
Michael Kimwele extended KCB’s lead in the second half, followed by Rocky Aguko and Ahmed Shaban’s penalty.
Kenya Simbas internationals Oliver Mangeni and George Asin scored each a try, with Essau Otieno also adding his name on the score-sheet.
The captain of the day, Ojow, landed his brace with fullback Otieno converting to put KCB on the driving seat, taking the game out of Mwamba’s reach.
Mwamba coached by veteran Humphrey Khayange scored their consolation try through experienced Edwin Machanje, with Daniel Taabu adding the extras for a 53-7 win.
The win means KCB will face Menengai Cream Homeboyz in the Enterprise Cup semis next weekend.
At the Jamhuri Showground, Homeboyz RFC also qualified for the Cup semis, beating Nondies 33-11 to book a spot with rivals KCB, in a repeat of last year’s semifinal as Kabras Sugar plays Impala Saracens.
The Saracens booked their semis berth after seeing off a stubborn Top Fry Nakuru RFC 24-15 in another quarterfinals match staged at the Impala Club.
Two quick tries from Timothy Makiya and Joel Omer ensured gave Impala a 14-0 lead before Charles Odongo stole the ball from the line-out to loop in for the burly Philip Kwame, who scored a beauty of a try.
Impala fly half Mark Kwemoi slotted in three points for Impala to lead 17-5 at the intervals.
Nakuru fly-half Ayah converted an off the maul try and comfortably slotted in a penalty but it was not enough for the Nakuru based team.
Impala will take on Kabras Sugar at the Kakamega Showground in the second semis next weekend.
Kabras saw off Campus side Blak Blad 38-10 at the Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu .
