Kabras outclass Leos to seal Homeboyz date

Kabras Sugar RFC swatted aside Strathmore Leos 42-13 to secure a Kenya Cup semis date with Menengai Cream Homeboyz following an impressive performance at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday.

Ugandan sensation Philip Wokorach was the tormentor in chief as Kabras landed six tries, four conversions and one penalty against the Leos’ one try conversion and two penalties.

Wokarach scored the first try under the post after a brilliant side-step to evade his markers.

Fly half Kevin Keegan failed to add the extras as the scoreboard read 5-0 in favour of Kabras inside the first quarter-hour.

Kabras failed to maintain their lead as an infringement deep in the Kabras 10-yard allowed Leos level the scores through Denis Juma with Gideon Makumi adding the extras to give his side a 7-5 advantage.

However, the varsity side’s lead was short-lived as Ugandan Pius Ogien and Elphaz Omong scored two quick tries to restore the lead for Charles Cardovillies’ men.

Keegan formerly of Kenya Harlequins converted one conversion but missed the other.

Wokarach then set up country man Asuman Mubera to score before stepping up to add the extras as the 2016 champions extended their lead.

Soon after the break Leos tried their luck with two penalties after Kabras were penalised for an infringement and high tackle.

Despite the sudden heavy downpour the game had to be played under the same conditions.

The home team composed itself to score two score two more tries through Hosea Ngesa and Kenya International Felix Ayange to close the game proceedings

Wokarach converting one try while Missing the other score’s  ending at 43-13 in Kabras favour.

With the win Kabras will contest for a Kenya Cup final spot against second placed finishers Menengai Cream Homeboyz at the Jamhuri Showground.

The Deejays qualified automatically for the semifinal spot by virtue of being in second position behind defending champion’s KCB.

This will be the fourth time in a row Kabras RFC will play in the Kenya Cup semifinals since its formation back in 2012.

In the Ngong road derby Impala Saracens with a show of superiority and might outclassed rival’s Kenya Harlequins 34-18 in a game played at the Impala Sports Club.

With both team’s parading experienced side’s for an opportunity of qualifying for a Kenya Cup semifinal spot Impala were first to score under the posts on the  3′ minute after they were awarded a  Penalty due to an infringement in the middle of the park by the Quins forwards, Impala utilising the opportunity.

Shujaa utility Sammy Motari scored for the Impala side after a slip by a Quins winger scores in favour of Impala 5-0.

But Harlequins were not going to let that Semifinal spot dissappear easily and Veteran Tony Mutai restored parity for Harlequins from a maul that was well worked out by the Quins forwards to land a try under the posts with Scrum half Lyle Asiligwa missing the extras scoreboard reading 7-5.

In the 13 minute Mercurial flyhalf Mark Kwemoi with the penalty for Impala but Roxy Suchi replying and going over for Quins, In a of ping pong like game at the Impala club,Impala 8 Quins 10.

With Kwemoi enjoying the chilly afternoon the youngster orchestrated a move with the Impala back line only to slice through the Quins defence like a double edged sword step to score a beautiful try under the posts.

Sammy Motari landed his brace after a patient build up that saw Impala run the ball a few faces before Motari who was at the right place at the right time to score his second try in the 22 minute.

The game’s tempo was rising as the clock ticked only  Quins to  claw their way back in the 33 minute and draw a penalty,Asiligwa composed himself and comfortably scored the goal attempt,Impala 20 Quins 13.

Towards the end of the first half Quins were reduced to 14 men after a high tackle by one of the Quins defender’s but the burly experienced Dennis Muhanji scored for Quins at the corner of the flag before the centre referee signalling half time.

Soon after the break both team’s tried to outplay each other with end to end rugby but handling error’s from both sides saw scores remain 20-18.

Paul Mutsami however scores under the posts after a handling error caused the Sarries punish their rivals Kwemoi adding the extras.
