Kenya’s
Junior Starlets are on a mission that could see them make history by securing a
second consecutive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance.
The
young lionesses are in intense training, fine-tuning their game ahead of their
crucial 2025 World Cup qualifier against Uganda in March.
With
memories of their debut in the Dominican Republic still fresh, the Starlets are
hungry for another shot at global glory.
Under
the guidance of coach Mildred Cheche, the squad is laser-focused on their
home-and-away clash, kicking off with an away leg in Uganda on March 8 before
the all-important return match in Nairobi on March 16.
Cheche
has assembled a strong 32-player camp featuring 10 seasoned players from last
year’s World Cup squad.
Among
them is midfield dynamo Halima Imbachi, the captain who led Butere Girls to
national and East African glory. She knows the stakes are high.
“We’ve
been to the World Cup before, and now the goal is to get back there. That means
working even harder,” Imbachi asserted.
Her
teammate Hanifa Bakari echoed her sentiments, exuding confidence ahead of the
Uganda challenge.
“Yes,
we start away, but our mindset is clear—bring home three points. If not, at
least one. Our eyes are on the prize—World Cup qualification!”
With
Kenya rallying behind them, the Junior Starlets are ready to roar.
Can
they conquer Uganda and keep their World Cup dream alive? March will tell.
