Impala targets Nondies’ scalp as Kenya Cup resumes

Impala Saracens head coach Frank Ndong says his main target is to contain Nondescripts’ forwards when the two teams lock horns this weekend at the RFUEA ground as action resumes on the  2018/2019 Kenya Cup season after the Christmas break.

Impala suffered their first defeat of the season in their last outing losing 42-10 against table topping Kabras Sugar to drop to position three on the log with 17 points with Ndong adamant that the tactical changes they made during their training will help them outshine Nondies.

“We have to contain their forwards since they are playing some very good rugby and that’s where they have dominated so far defeating the defending champions KCB to hand them their first loss of the season,”Ndong said.

“We’re going to change our game plan slightly because we always have two or three plans according to the opponents we’re playing so for Nondies the game will be different.”

Ahead of the clash, Impala has been handed a massive following the return of fullback Samuel Oliech from Shujaa.

“We have brought in Oliech at the half back, prop Antony Orege is back on the bench so as to bring depth in the squad.”

Ndong believes Oliech will bring the needed experience to the team and also help tighten their back line.

Nondies who sit fifth in the log with 15 points, will on the other hand be aiming to improve on their position so as to bag a playoff place at the end of the season.

The match kicks off at 4:00 pm at the RFUEA ground.

In other matches, Kenya Harlequins who are currently sitting fourth on the log with 16 points will host Top Fry Nakuru from 2pm at the same ground.

Table toppers Kabras Sugar welcome Menengai Oilers who are placed tenth with 6 points at the Kakamega Showground while defending champions KCB host Mean Machine at KCB Sports Club in Nairobi.

Blak Blad face an uphill task at the Railways Club in Nairobi when they take on Homeboyz who have already lost two matches, sitting  eighth with 11 points, 14 off leaders Kabras, while relegation threatened Strathmore Leos will be seeking their first win of the season when they battle Mwamba RFC at home.
