Im still a Yanga player, ignore the rumours Shikhalo

Young Africans SC goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo has refuted claims that he has been axed by the Tanzanian giants.

Shikhalo who was part of Harambee Stars AFCON squad at the 2019 showpiece in Egypt stated that he still has a year on his contract, pouring called water on the media reports.

“Those are just local dailies here looking for catchy headlines but I’m still a Yanga player,” explained Shikhalo.

According to the former Bandari goalie, the team management is responsible for any signing or release of a player and they have not communicated anything to the effect.

“The board has the authority to fire me if they don’t need me anymore but I have not received any directive to that effect so it remains rumours.”

The ‘Timu ya Wananchi’ parted ways with their head coach Luc Eymael on Monday following racial slur on the part of the Belgian coach targeting the club fans.

Eymael, a former AFC Leopards tactician had been quoted by a section of Tanzania press saying he’ll release 13 players from his squad at the end of the season with Farouk being one of them.

However the axe fell on him even before the ink could dry on the paper.

The shotstopper was signed from Mombasa based side Bandari FC at the end of last season after a successful period with the Dockers.
