Im not amorous, suspended Starlets coach Webo declares

Suspended Harambee Starlets goalkeeper trainer; Lawrence Webo maintains he is innocent after being linked into the scandal engulfing the team through suspension saying he is not a sex pest.

Webo was on Tuesday asked to step down from his role by Kenya Football Federation (FKF) after being mentioned adversely in allegations that technical bench members were preying on the girls for sex.

At the centre of the storm are claims he was instrumental in influencing selection of the squad that will travel to Spain and Germany next week based on their willingness to give in to the official’s lust.

The former AFC Leopards keeper who is employed in a similar role at Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side, Posta Rangers spoke out to Citizen Digital on Wednesday after his suspension and link to the ‘sex for selection’ saga exploded on local media denying he was amorous.

“I am not guilty. The same media houses could have listened to me before doing the stories. But that’s a gone case and my name is already in the bad books, nothing will change that. We better leave it for now, I’ll get over it, God is my defender,” the aggrieved Webo mourned.

Images of the custodian trainer hugging the Starlets goal keeper after their qualification for November’s CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations (Awcon) were splashed in local dailies in what he decried as an effort to prove his guilt in the court of public opinion.

“I have not said anywhere that someone decided to fix me, have I? For now the whole thing is under investigation and I’m trying to stay out of public and media as FKF is handling the issue. I’ll be ready to talk in due time though it’s true the media has really injured me but that’s a non issue for now.

“I have a game on Saturday and I have closed the Starlets file to concentrate on my club duties. It is time to absorb the story,” the 35 year-old tactician added.

He refused to comment on the impact the scandal will have on the Starlets team who qualified to the Awcon for the first time in history in the run up to the continental showpiece.

A source privy to Citizen Digital revealed another member of the women’s team technical bench is also facing similar allegations of dipping fingers in the player’s honey jar and is due to be exposed soon.
