Homeboyz sink Bandari, Tusker go top

Kakamega Homeboyz defeated Bandari FC 1-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium to rise into top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings albeit for a short period after Tusker FC claimed the position later on Wednesday.

Christopher Masinza struck inside the opening 10 minutes and it proved the match-winner for Homeboyz who thus unseated Gor Mahia FC at the summit with their third successive league victory.

In another KPL late clash in Machakos, Eric Ambunya struck in the 72nd minute against Wazito to send Tusker FC top of the league on 27 points, one above Homeboyz.

Earlier at the Muhoroni Grounds, Enosh Ochieng fired a first half double to inspire Ulinzi Stars’ 4-1 demolition of Chemelil Sugar with John Kago and Ezekiel Okare also on the scoresheet for the soldiers.

David Simiyu scored the consolation for the hosts who suffered their 12th defeat in 13 matches.

In Kakamega, Masinza tapped an easy finish past Justin Ndikumana after Peter Thiongo’s cross had found him unmarked in the 9th minute.

Bandari tried to force an equaliser but Homeboyz custodian Gabriel Andika was on fine form to deny Yema Mwana from six yards out.

Bandari squandered another opportunity as referee awarded them a free-kick inside the penalty box,but Nicolas Mejja hit the wall for another corner.

Homeboyz were in much control at the stroke of half time and could have added their second just after the breather with David Okoth coming close .

Mohammed Siraj was at the rescue with 25 minutes left to play,Ali Bhai setting up Thiongo but his low shot was cleared from the line.

Bandari were in much control of the proceedings towards the end of the match but their blunt attackers failed to find the back of the net.

Homeboyz looked much better with their defensive line despite Mwalala bringing on Wycliffe Ochomo as he looked to steer up his attacking options.

Festus Okiring was at the heart of Homeboyz’ defence and the lad had one of his best afternoons as he kept on check Yema and Ochomo.

With the win,their third in a row,Homeboyz now leapfrog Gor Mahia at the top of the KPL table on 26 points,one above defending Champions Gor Mahia.

The Nicolas Muyoti coached side have a date with Ulinzi Stars as Bandari visit Kisumu All Stars.
