Harambee Stars U20 boss scouts for talent in Kisumu

A total 30 boys have been identified as potential recruits for the national under-20 team, assistant coach Hesbon Nyabinge said on Saturday following a scouting exhibition at the Obunga Complex  in Kisumu.

Youngsters from Kisumu and Kakamega counties were invited for the exercise and later 15 from each of those regions were selected although that figure will be whittled down to 18.

Nyabinge says they are taking advantage of the break from active sporting events as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic to scout such talents to help bolster the national team.

“The future of soccer in the country entirely relies on the youthful players and nowhere better to spot them than from the grassroots teams,” Nyabinge said, adding those who will make the final cut will go to the national team camp for training.

During the exercise teams including Obunga FC, Bandani, Urusi and Winam FC showcased their best players in friendly matches.
