Gor, Sharks turn guns on KPL after CAF progress

Gor Mahia FC and Kariobangi Sharks recalibrate their focus back on their domestic campaigns over the weekend after making progress on the continental front.

Gor, who have reached the CAF Champions League second round, are in Mombasa on Saturday where they begin their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title defence against Bandari FC.

Their advance was far from impressive as they struggled to overcome Nyasa Big Bullets and have goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch for making two crucial penalty saves in regulation time and during their 4-3 shootout win over the Malawians.

Sharks defeated Arter Solar 9-1 on aggregate and have gathered some positive momentum ahead of their KPL opener against AFC Leopards on Sunday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

William Muluya’s men won their second piece of silverware in three months at the start of December when they defeated Gor 1-0 in the Super and look in good shape for the new season.

Gor jet back to the country on Thursday night aboard Ethiopian Airlines and will head straight to Mombasa for their league opener, according to the club’s Team Manager Jolawi Obondo.

The record KPL champions will then welcome Lobi Stars of Nigeria a week later for the first leg of their CAF Champions League second round clash with the return fixture scheduled for December 22.

Sharks play Asante Kotoko in the first round of the competition with the first leg slated for December 14 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
