Gor set for Zambia trip for NAPSA Stars clash

Gor Mahia are scheduled to depart for Lusaka on Friday February 19 11pm for the second leg of the CAF Confederations Cup playoffs against NPSA Stars.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier has confirmed they will fly aboard Kenya Airways for the journey that will take 2 hour and 46 minutes.

“We are leaving tomorrow aboard Kenya Airways at 11pm Kenyan time and expect to land in Lusaka at around 2am Saturday. We are on a mission and we expect the best out of this clash,’’ said the chairman

Rachier added that the travelling party consist of 22 players, six technical bench members, three officials and a representative of the Kenyan federation.

He said they will undergo a mandatory Covid19 test on arrival before playing on Sunday evening. This is even after taking the same test in Nairobi.

‘’The Covid test is mandatory and even before leaving Nairobi, we have to take this test.’’

The chairman said they will not spend a further night in Lusaka after the game but will travel back Sunday night and expect to land in Nairobi on Monday Morning.

The task ahead of Gor is a millstone around their neck since overturning the 1-0 first leg loss and notching home a winner will be like a history in the making.

Gor were beaten 1-0 in the first leg in Nairobi and will need to win by a two-goal margin to advance to the lucrative group stages.

According to first vice captain Philemon Otieno, anything is possible and likened this match to the December 2018 match against Malawi’s Nyasa Bullets whom they eliminated in Malawi on post-match penalties after either-side won 1-0 on home ground.

The Kenyan champions beat Nyasa bullets 5-4 on aggregate after-penalty shootout in the dramatic second leg staged at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi.

Goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch was the toast for the Kenya side after saving two penalties on regulation time and another in the shootout to bundle out Nyasa bullets from the Champions League.

Otieno thinks it is very possible to bundle out the Zambians from this competition.

“We are determined not to let out fans and country down. This is our chance to advance to the group stage and we will be playing as if in the finals,’’ said Otieno.
