Gor in need of some luck, says Phil Otieno

Gor Mahia FC’s vice-captain Philemon Otieno has insisted the Kenyan champions are playing well and only need a little bit of luck before they can start to pick the right results.

Gor, who play Mathare United on Thursday at Kasarani, have lost all five of their previous matches in all competitions but Otieno believes they are doing everything right on the pitch.

The defender says the new coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto who was unveiled during the weekend has done a lot ahead of their FKF Premier League clash against Mathare adding they are ready to get back to winning ways.

“We have the right motivation and are doing everything right so it won’t be long before we start winning again,” Otieno said adding, “we cannot afford to keep losing again.”

Gor sit 16th in the FKF-PL standings and a win for them will send them into tenth. Mathare United sit at the bottom of the table having won no point from only one match played so far.

In an earlier interview, club secretary general Sam Ocholla attributed the poor performance to inconsistency in coaching.

Gor has had close to four coaches ever since the season started with Roberto Olieviera’s ban by CAF forcing the club to seek services of Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo as a stand-in coach for the continental matches.

Their assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo also ditched the club reportedly for Bandari forcing them again to introduce the youth team coach Tom Ogweno for a short time before now hiring Portuguese Van Pinto.

Gor’s form is cause for worry ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup assignment come February 14 when they host Zambian side NAPSA Stars.
