Gor at risk of losing sponsors over sports ban Rachier

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier fears the club might lose their shirt sponsorship deal with a gaming firm if the recent ban on sports is not reviewed.

Though the shirt sponsors continue to remit monies to the club, Rachier opines that their partners want to see value for money, and the trend may soon change if the ban on Sports is not lifted.

 ‘’Definitely, if the indefinite ban on sporting activities goes on for long, then I am worried we might lose the sponsors. They definitely want to see value for their money,’’ explained Rachier.

 Rachier at the same time reckons his players are likely to lose their fitness due to lack of matches, and urged the government to consider lifting the ban.

“If we cannot train anywhere, anytime, what this means is that most of our players have nothing to do yet we still have to pay salaries. This is to the disadvantage of the club and might even heap more burden on us when we already have more than enough problems to solve.

Sports activities were put on ice two weeks ago in a wide-ranging measures taken by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

In the meantime, the the club boss has termed as ‘rumours’ the impending exit of former club captain Kenneth Muguna. The Kenyan international is said to be on his way out of the club after he was stripped off the armband, which was passed to the former captain Harun Shakava who rejoined KÓgalo recently after playing for one season in Zambia.

According to Rachier, Muguna has not made any official communication to the club leaving club officials guessing. He however was full of praise for the midfielder whom he termed as a ‘talented player’.

“I also heard about it(rumours) yesterday. But so far we are in the dark because he has not communicated to us officially. As of now, I am also treating his departure plan as a rumour.”

Muguna who has captained K’Ogalo for over a year is reportedly unhappy with his demotion, and according to a club source he’s explained his desire of leaving the club soon.

Should he exit it will be another blow to Gor who are currently struggling after losing six out of their first 14 league matches leaving them on the seventh spot as at the time sporting activities were halted.
