Goalie Kasaya wins Ksh1.6 million in contract row

Flamboyant custodian Wycliffe Kasaya has won big after Football Kenya Federation ordered Sofapaka to pay him Ksh 1.6 million for wrongful dismissal.

The order was made by FKF  Player Status Committee after looking into the case filed by the veteran goalkeeper.

Kasaya who had a contract with Batoto ba Mungu running from June 2, 2018, to May 31, 2020, was dismissed by the club on November  8, 2018 prompting him take the battle to the corridors of justice suing the club for wrongful termination of his contract.

The Committee established that despite a lawfully existing contract, the last salary received by former AFC Leopards and Mathare United goalkeeper was that of September 2018 and came to conclusion that: “The player had a fixed term contract with the club running from June 2, 2018, to May 31, 2020. The last salary the player received was for the month of September 2018.”

“Having considered the player’s complaint, his submissions and those of the club, the committee’s decision is that there was wrongful and unfair constructive dismissal of the Player’s contract with Sofapaka FC on the 8th November 2018,”the committee ruled.

The Committee promised to issue the reasons for their verdict within 21 days.

The goal keeper is one of the eight players who were released by Sofapaka prior to the new season despite having joined the Elly Kalekwa’s men in June last year and had been contracted to struggling Posta Rangers after putting to ink a deal in the preseason transfer window.
