Former City Stars goalie Opiyo joins Gor

Former Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Levis Opiyo has joined Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia FC on a two-year contract.

Opiyo announced his move in a Facebook post, thanking Nairobi City Stars and fans for the support they accorded him during his stint with the Kawangware-based outfit.

“New challenge, Gor Mahia will be my new home. I would like to thank all the family of Nairobi City Stars for the good season we had and now as I look forward to another experience …Thanks to my fans and supporters.

“God bless.” He posted.

Opiyo was a key figure for City Stars as they gained promotion to the KPL and was named the club’s Player of the month in September 2019.

Rumours were rife last week about Opiyo’s imminent departure with Gor targeting him as a replacement of Fredrick Odhiambo who is a target for Wazito FC and David Mapigano whose future at the club remains uncertain.

Opiyo featured in almost all matches for the slum boys last season only missing on two games.

Opiyo has a wealth of experience in the Kenyan Premier League having featured for clubs like Mathare United, Posta Rangers and Western Stima.

Nairobi City stars are left with Jacob Osano and Ronny Kagunzi as their only keepers.
