For Kabras, the winning streak is just but a preview, hard work lurks yet

Kabras Sugar RFC assistant coach Edwin Achayo says they’re taking one match at a time and won’t allow their current form get into their head in their quest for a Kenya Cup title.

“We would like to go the whole season unbeaten but we won’t be carried away by our current form. At the moment we aren’t thinking a lot about the end of the season when it hasn’t reached halfway.”

Speaking after outshining Menengai Oilers 41-5 at the Kamamega showground last weekend, the former Kabras scrum- half said their attention shifts to Nondescripts whom they battle this weekend at the RFUEA ground in Nairobi, hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to seven games.

“We will take each match at a time and see how it goes, so all our focus right now is on Nondies, and we will see how that goes before we focus on the next one .This is the best way to approach any game.”

To underline their title credentials, Nondies defeated defending Kenya Cup champions KCB in a round four match and also beat heavyweights Impala Saracens 22-20 last weekend, a development that has left pundits talking up their Cup chances.

“I don’t think there is any easy game in the league at the moment; for example Oilers defeated Quins some weeks ago so there will always be upsets,” Achayo who despite his impressive form with Kabras during his hey-day failed to break into the national sides, said.

“Nondies have had a resurgence which makes them a good team so I’m sure it will be tough playing them at their home ground since they have a lot of experience in their squad and they’re also very good in set pieces,” Achayo reckoned .

Kabras, under the tutelage of South African Henley Du Plessis, can dare dream because currently only Felix Ayange is under observation after picking a knock in last weekend’s outing but is expected to line up against Nondies when the two collide in what is expected to a be a mighty rugby fight at the games spiritual home– the RFUEA ground.

Sugar last bagged the Kenya Cup title in 2016 and will be aiming to add another piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet.Doing so will be a milestone for Du Plessis who was plucked from a South African outfit Boland Cavaliers where he worked as a forward coach, taking over from Charles Cardovillis, his goal to lead Kabras renaissance.
