FKF-PL kick off: Baraza upbeat of Sofapaka title chances

Sofapaka head coach John Baraza says he envisages a realistic chance of winning their second top flight title in the coming 2020/21 season which kicks off Saturday.

The 2009 champions begin their FKF Premier League campaign against KCB on Sunday and Baraza is hoping for a better outing after bolstering his squad with high-profile players including midfielder cog Lawrence Juma, who joined from Gor Mahia.

“Just like any other team that enters a competition we (Sofapaka) are very much determined to win the league this coming season because we have what it takes to compete against the big boys,’’ the former Kenyan international told Citizen Digital.

Besides Juma, Batoto Ba Mungu roped in other eight top guns namely; Michael Kibwage, Isaac Mitima, Michael Karamor, Michael Bodo, Kevin Omondi, Roy Okal, and Paul Kiongera.

Having finished tenth last season, Baraza believes all is not lost for a club that racked up the league gong in 2009 in their first season in the top-flight.

“It been a decade since we laid hands on that prestigious cup and with the support I’m getting from the management I think we can dare to dream this season.

At the same time, KCB captain Dennis Odhiambo is predicting a tough campaign after near-all clubs beefed up their squads.

“The season’s preparation has been very different from the other seasons because after the league took a break we were expected to again train in isolation following the guidelines that have been set by the government, but as a team we intend to continue from where we left last season.

“It’s difficult  to play without the fans  in the stadium but these is a situation we have to adapt to  because it’s happening all over the world ,but we will have to adopt to the new norm,” said Odhiambo.
