Faruk Shikhalo keen on Stars starting role

Yanga FC goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalo believes he has what it takes to be number one goalkeeper for the national team Harambee stars.

Shikhalo has said he has gotten the exposure and is always putting in the hard work towards improving his keeping skills as he looks to muscle Patrick Matasi and Arnold Origi out of the number one spot.

“I am very happy with what my colleagues Matasi and Origi alongside other members of the national team are doing to raise the national flag high in every competition they are being involved in.

“I know I am working very hard in training and I have always proved myself anytime I am given an opportunity to prove myself and when called upon by the coach I will be willing to give my best for my country,” said Shikhalo.

The former Bandari FC shot stopper added he was confident that the national team still has a chance to qualify for the African Cup of Nations despite difficult fixtures against Egypt and Togo.

“I know we still have a chance to qualify for the tournament and with self belief and the support for all the stakeholders nothing is impossible.

“We have seen giants fall on our home ground just like we did with Ghana. I am confident we can give our best and make our fans proud,” he added.

With six months left on his current deal with Yanga, Shikhalo says he is willing to extend his stay at the Tanzanian club if a good offer is tabled.

“I love Yanga so much they have given me everything that I wanted I know my contract comes to an end in the next six month and when the right time comes we will sit down and find the best way forward for both parties.

My love for the club is seen by how much I give when I am playing for them and if they want me to extend my stay I will be willing to stay.”
