Equity wont start season unless safety assured, says coach Maina

Equity Bank basketball teams’ head coach David Maina says they could not play their opening league match over the weekend because their safety against the COVID-19 was not assured.

The men’s team was to play against EMYBA on Saturday at Nyayo Gymnasium but that match failed to take place.

The Kenya Basketball Federation fixtures secretary Joseph Amoko claimed the match was cancelled to give the men’s national team Morans ample time to train, against Maina’s assertion.

“Some things were not done and we just won’t start a league when there’s no information on Covid-19 protocols. We feel the league has to do more and maybe we can start next month. It’s not just us but the rest of the teams and referees feel the same way,” Maina said.

The KBF league was suspended last year due to Covid-19 pandemic that halted virtually all sport around the globe.
