Equity coach Maina hails charges despite losing unbeaten tag
Kenya Basketball Federation Classic League women defending champions Equity Bank head coach David Maina has hailed his charges despite losing their match of the season
Equity who played away against the former champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) were humbled 50-52 in a hard fought game played at Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa at the weekend.
But despite the defeat, Maina chose to look at the positive side of things. He said: “It was a tough game and I must commend my girls for putting up a “great show”.
“Our starting and finishing was very good, we played very well even though our subs did not have the drive to give us what we expected,” Maina added.
Meanwhile, despite the win, KPA captain Brenda Angesha said they still have a lot to do in the upcoming fixtures.
“We played well, though we still have some adjustments to do. I still believe we can do better since our aim is to win the league and we need to secure ourselves a better position for the playoffs,” Angeshi said.
Brenda added that each and every game counts for them and that they need to play harder in remaining fixtures.
So far KPA have won three out of the four games played while Equity have played eight games losing only one.
Meanwhile KPA ladies counterparts KPA men suffered a major blow in their quest to finish in a better position in the regular league when they lost 78-73 to Equity Bank men team at the same venue.
KPA lost two quarters, winning one and drawing one.
KPA captain who doubles up as assistant head coach Samuel Ocholla said the loss was a tough one but a good lesson for them.
“The team system, defence and chemistry is gaining momentum. Our focus now is on the remaining two games against Lakeside and Worldhope and then prepare for second leg,” Ocholla added.
Meanwhile Storms women basketball team head coach Abel Nson is satisfied with team’s performance as they ended their first leg run, winning seven matches, losing four.
“We started very badly and had unnecessary looses but we shall avenge those looses in the second leg,” Nson said.
