England hand Kenya second Dubai 7s loss
England soared top of Pool D with a 12-5 victory over Shujaa as the Kenyans were punished for a disjointed team display in their second group match at the Dubai Sevens on Friday.
Kenya had gone down 17-12 in their opener on Thursday and needed a response against the English who struck first when Lindsay Hague side stepped his way to score under the posts in the third minute.
Tom Emery converted to put England 7-0 at halftime with Kenya coach Paul Feeney electing to bring on skipper Andrew Amonde, Alvin Otieno, Nelson Oyoo, Jeffrey Oluoch and Dan Sikuta to try and push in for a win.
Substitute Alvin Otieno had a clear chance to equalize for Shujaa but was denied by a last tackle from HSBC top try scorer in the HSBC series Dan Norton.
England’s substitute Biddy got a pass after a hard fight from Emelly to score their second try in the 11 the minute Emery missing the conversion to bring the score at 12-0.
Nelson Oloo found his way from the 22 metres line scoring Kenya’s first try with winger Daniel Taabu missing the extras at the 12th minute to make it 12-5.
The match ended 12-5 at full time Shujaa committing 15 fouls against England’s 10, while England had four offsides against Kenya’s two.
Shujaa play their last Pool D match against Spain at 6:32 pm (EAT).
